Quasar was a value-priced sub-brand of Panasonic. Quasar VCRs have the same build quality and picture quality as Panasonic VCRs. Quasar VHQ-40M is functionally similar to Panasonic models PV-V402 and PV-V4022. The major difference was front-panel trim. Panasonic VCRs had a "Blue Line" on the front.
